Getting Real: A Sneak Peek of a Sneak Peek

To be completely honest, I haven't got much done on the boys' room this week. Stupid store that consumes most of my money (you know the one) was out of the sheets and comforter I need. Hopefully, they will restock tomorrow.

Anyhoo...I started working on some wall art for their room that actually came out of my own head. The fabric I used to make Hudson's bedding is Riley Blake Wheels. Brown, kinda vintage-y, very cool. So I decided to do some photography art (cuz I'm such an artist) to go on the wall somewhere that picked up that vintage vibe.

It was super simple, easy, and free. I found the most vintage looking Hot Wheels I could find out of Maverick's massive collection, plus the Doc Hudson. Because I named my other kid after him.

I did my little photography set-up which included a piece of posterboard, two lamps, and a point and shoot camera set on the macro setting. I do not own a DSLR. But I am taking donations. :)

Picnik (which is closing!) is a great tool for editing. I used the Boost, Vibrance, and Cross Process effects on these.

I'll print them at Wal-Mart and then pop them into frames I bought for $1 a piece two years ago.

Obviously, the real sneak peak will come tomorrow or Friday when I figure where I'm going to put them.

Getting Real: Apartment Redo on a Budget, Part 1

We've lived six places in five years. Right now we are in a two bedroom townhouse with beige walls. We've lived here for six months and I have yet to put any pictures on the walls. It does not feel like home right now, and it's kind of depressing.

After having a mini meltdown last week, I made the decision to be content where I'm at and make this place feel like home. I've been embarassed to have people over because to me it looks like we just moved in. I am so tired of that.

Being a stay at home mom living on a police officer's salary presents some budget constraints. At first I considered giving myself a $100 budget to do some redecorating in every room, but I didn't want to dissappoint myself if I went slightly over budget. So I decided to just keep a tab going and spend as little as possible.

Now, I'm going to "get real" and show you how my home looks now. It's pretty sad.

My living room. Bare beige walls and no curtains. And an ugly desk.

The boys' room. More bare walls. Winnie the Pooh (blech) playpen used for a bed, broken dresser, ugly bedding, and no curtain.

Our room. Again with the bare walls. Mismatched furniture, no bedskirt and dingy comforter, no headboard, and no curtains.

Kitchen. No curtain and complete lack of color.

The bathrooms aren't all that bad. Just kind of plain. Nothing new handtowels and maybe a vinyl decal here and there can't spruce up.

I will be posting some sneak peeks (and maybe a tutorial) and then a reveal of each room. Hopefully this Saturday will be the big reveal of the boys' room. Fingers crossed.

So, there it is. The sad, sad truth. Sometimes I feel like bloggers only show the best of their work and themselves. I want to be real. I want you to see my failures and my successes. Or in this case see my failure turn into a success.

New Etsy Items and Updates

My family was hit so hard these past two weeks with all sorts of sickness. First, all three of my guys came down with Type A flu. A mixture of God's grace and Tamiflu kept me well. Then, Hudson came down with RSV and a double ear infection and the very next day Maverick was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. Thankfully, all three are on the mend. As for me, I came down with a wicked sinus infection that required a shot in the butt and a course of antibiotics.

Anywho, I didn't get much done this week but I did come up with a new product and did some updates on my current listings.

My skinny man got 3 (!) Nerf guns for Christmas and a butt load of darts. I was going to make some sort of cross body bag for all the ammo, but I came up with this bandolier idea thing.

I also took some new pictures of my ever-so-popular light saber popsicle cozies.

Here the link to my shop if you want to check it out.

So, next week I'm going to try to post at least twice. As long as everyone decides to stay well.

Thanks for stopping by!
