One Dropcloth, Four Ways

I have a very tiny decorating budget. I know some people are thinking that's like a couple of hundred dollars.

NO.

I'm talking like 20 bucks.

I was at Lowe's just browsing, checking out the spraypaint and I wondered over to the dropcloth shelf. Hmm, methinks. The 4 x 5 one was marked down to $4.97. I had no idea what I would do with it, but I figured I could definitely come up with something.

So, after having the dropcloth in my possession for about 2 months it has had 4 different incarnations. Please enjoy my thriftiness.

#1: Reupholstered Desk Chair

This could not have been easier. I just unscrewed the hideous and stained chair seat, cut the dropcloth to fit and stenciled on the chevron design with some painter's tape. Staple, staple, staple, and done.

#2: No Sew Ribbon Valance

I had an ugly curtain. I had some dropcloth, hot glue, and ribbon. I measured, cut, hot glued the seams and ribbon on and tied it to the curtain rod. I like how it's all rustic and breezy with my white sheers. And it's also impossible to get a good picture of that window.

#3: Ticker Tape Pillow

This one took a bit more work. I had some leftovers from the throw pillows I made for my couch and rocking chair, plus a charm pack (I think that's what it's called) my mom had brought me back from a quilt show. It was slow, but simple work. I did most of it while sitting in my floor watching Scrubs. I just cut a whole bunch of different sized pieces with pinking shears and used a plain old glue stick to arrange them on the dropcloth piece that would be the front of the pillow. I sewed them down (took FOREVER) and proceeded to just put together a basic throw pillow. And then I sprayed it heavily with Scotch Gard because my kids are mess machines.

#4: All Season Ruffle Wreath

I used this tutorial from The Handmade Home for the basic idea and a wreath form I had made from pipe insulation. My ruffles aren't as gathered as hers are, but at this point I was kinda running out of dropcloth. The cute little owl garland I actually found in the Wal Mart dollar aisle! It's just stuck on there with pins.

I did all of that for a grand total of (drumroll, please!) $7.94 (because I did buy the ribbon for the curtain and the owl garland) !!!

Bow to my frugality.

Thanks for stopping by!!
