Here's the link to the sad, sad "Before" post.
My poor boys.
We did end up having to buy a new crib and dresser, but I'm not counting that in my final cost. We needed those as our free furniture deal kinda fell through and it wasn't just for decorating purposes.
*Drumroll please!*
The after!!
Now on the Maverick's bed. It was originally painted red, but I spray painted it white. The bedspread is from Wal-Mart. The oh-so-cute pillowcase was sewn and appliqued by a great friend of mine. Bartering and just plain old asking for favors is a good way to get some really cute stuff. The old bridge sign actually came from my husband's bedroom from when he was a teenager. We've moved that thing from house to house always saying we were going to hang it somewhere and we finally did! The wonderful, cute, and functional clipboard idea was a Pinterest find.
The toy box was moved to the other corner and I made bunting using scraps. Didn't cost me a penny. And took like 15 minutes.
The curtain (and pillowcase) were sewn using a $5 flat sheet from Wal-Mart. The flat sheet curtain was sooo easy. I just cut and hemmed it to the length I needed, seam ripped the sides where the big hem is , and sewing another line through that hem to make the pocket. Easy peasy.
My dad made the cubby system. I was going to clear it off and put only sophisticated and Mom-approved decor on it, but I like to keep it real. This is my kid's odd collection zone. The lamp was a little project I did that didn't turn out too well, but it works.
And now to Hudson's dresser. You'll notice we don't have a changing table. It's because I never use one. I'm really short and they all seem to come up to my armpits. The dresser was thrifted for $10. The frame and the Hudson Hornet cars were baby gifts. The basket was a clearance find at Hobby Lobby. The wall decor was fun. I found the Route 66 sign on sale for 50% off at Hobby Lobby and the letters were 50% off too! The map was made by cutting up our only road map of Missouri (sorry, Honey) and decoupaging it to a 8x10 canvas. I drew a heart over our home town and painted the sides brown. The M and H each got a coat of paint to their own. The old license plate was found by my husband on his family's farm.
Spray paint for Maverick's bed: $11
Maverick's comforter : $18
Sheet for curtain and pillowcase: $5
Canvas for map art: $2
Letters: $3
Clipboards: $4
Basket: $2.50
Photos: $0.82
Total cost: $46.32
It's a little more than I wanted to spend, but hey, spray paint ain't cheap.
Thanks for stopping by!

I totally agree, it looks fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great, very creative and crafty. I love seeing that you did some of the ideas I've seen on Pinterest, too. And all on such a small budget.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on my kid's room, converting my daughter's only partially decorated room into a shared boy/girl room (until she's ready to move upstairs alone) with a new baby boy. I've been pinning ideas and inspiration, and have a budge about the size of yours, so trying to be super creative and crafty too. Sadly, I haven't even been able to get finished cleaning, it gets "uncleaned" as fast as I try to get it cleaned up and the furniture rearranged. Plus I need to get the money together for a mattress on the "big girl" bed. I need the mattress from her toddler for the crib, my little guy is still in the Pack'nPlay bassinet.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration :)
I don't quite understand what you mean, trouble again to explain, especially hollister and so on
ReplyDeleteI love the room.....
ReplyDeleteI have "tagged" you in my recent blog post. Go check it out.
