30 before 30

I've been wanting to do this for a while now, but I've kinda been scared. No offense to those over 30, but that number just seems so old.

what my heart sounds like from the inside

On this day last year I found out I was pregnant. I have never in my life felt so elated and terrified at the same time.
God has a way of surprising his kids, because a good daddy always does. He also knows that I can never wait to get my birthday presents, so those two pink lines showed up three days before I turned 24.

I had given up. I had finally accepted that Maverick would very likely be an only child. I had given away all the baby things, threw away the ovulation tests, and put my thermometer in the back of a drawer. I was done trying. I prayed that God would give me the strength to move on, because I was still grieving for the baby that we had lost a six months earlier. My body was broken, but I refused to let this heartache destroy me. I had one beautiful miracle of a son. What more could I need?
But then God said "Happy Birthday, child." My heart was so full. I was scared out my mind. I was deliriously happy. I couldn't get rid of the goosebumps.
I literally got forehead to carpet in my prayer for my tiny unborn child. I knew there was a chance I could miscarry again. And I told God that if that's what would happen I would still trust Him. But I didn't have to worry.

That day I went to the doctor and immediately got bloodwork. My levels were high. Very high. And everything looked perfect the next week at my first ultrasound. And everything continued be perfect.
Eight months after that beautiful day I had an even beautiful-er day. I got to meet my son. My son that came out looking exactly like I had imagined. Just like his big brother but with my coloring.

Before Hudson Rhys was born I was worried about having enough love for both my boys. I couldn't imagine loving someone as much as I love Maverick. But the second I heard his first cry my heart almost burst.

To my boys,

"No one will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you're the only ones who know what my heart sounds like from the inside."

"This isn't a bib! Mom just put my cape on backwards."

I haven't really accomplished anything in the past couple days aside from securing a tenant for our house and searching the classifieds for a new place for us.
I NEEDED to do something, so I started digging through the dresser I keep my fabric and craft stuff in and I came out with an old towel and a t-shirt. So, I decided to whip up a bib! And not just any old bib, but a super bib.
And I'm gonna show you guys how to do one, too! Yay!!!

You need:
something terrycloth (cheap washcloth weight is probably best...learned that the hard way.)
old t-shirt
velcro
freezer paper
fabric paint
plastic wrap (optional)

First we are going to sew up a bib real quick. Just trace a bib you have or use a pattern you found online, doesn't matter. I traced a bib I had.

You're going to cut out two bib pieces, one out of the terry and the other out of the t-shirt.

Pin together and sew leaving a gap to turn.

Turn right side out , press, then topstitch all the way around. I used contrasting thread because I ran out of black wanted to.

Now here's a funny little fact. My machine hates me. Or it hates velcro. I can't decide.
At this point you want to sew your velcro on using that cute little "x in a box" stitching. My machine did this.

I'm buying some snaps.

Ok, now that you're done with the sewing part, it's on to the freezer paper stencil.

Find an image on Google. I used Batman, because he's awesome.

I like shortcuts so I cut my freezer paper to size to fit in my printer and print my image directly onto it, that way I don't have to trace it.

Cut your image out. The best knife I've found is the Xacto with the swivel blade. Takes curves like a dream.

Iron it onto your bib. Don't rush through this step. Make sure it's stuck on there really well or else it will bleed. Trust me.

Paint away. I used plastic wrap to give it a "distressed" look, but you can do whatever.

Let it dry and put it on a cute baby.

"Holy Roley Baby, Batman!"

Once I'm done being mad at my machine, I'll make a enough to outfit all the SuperFriends.

From My Phone Friday

So, here's what my week looked like, as seen from the lens of my iPhone.

Popsicle cozy, anyone?

"I'm so good cuz I'm an artist!"

Pinterest inspired mustache pacifier. He liked it.

Found this fortune when I was cleaning out my car.

Tiny cowboy.

This might be the only picture I have where my kid kinda looks like me.

There ya go. It might not be that exciting, but it's mine. And I love it.

The "Ineeda" Box aka Car Emergency Kit

UPDATE 7/2/12: Thanks for visiting from Pinterest! For the new, updated, and improved version of this box go here! Revamped using suggestions that showed up in my comments.

My car is gross. Seriously. I took pictures, but I'm too embarrassed to show you guys.

Anyway, I'm always rummaging around for something when I hear "Mom! I need a (fill in the blank)!" And after a recent in-the-car nosebleed, well...I had to make this box.

It's super easy and very cheaply made.

Just get yourself a wipes box (a plastic shoebox will work to, but this is what I had on hand), some scrap fabric, scissors, and a glue gun.

Cover the box with the scraps.

And then fill it.

I put in a grocery bag for trash, wipes, a diaper, hand sanitizer, band aids, pain reliever, lotion, tissues, a safety pin, a hair elastic, a five dollar bill, a granola bar, a pen, Carmex, and some fruit snacks.

Shut the lid.

Now you're ready for anything. Like when your bra strap breaks or someone tries to hand you a half-chewed gummy worm.
