Argyle Burp Cloths

I want to preface this post by saying that I suck at appliqueing. But you can't blame a girl for trying, eh?

Anyway, the tubby one has reflux so we go through the burp cloths. He's been eating more, therefore I need more burp cloths. I saw all the cute little onesies with argyle appliques floating around the blogosphere, so I decided to do some burpies in that manner. And consequently, grace you all with a tutorial.

Here's what you need:

Cloth diapers (the ones with the padded middle)
Scrap fabric
Heat 'n' Bond
Water soluble fabric pen
Contrasting thread
Sewing Machine

Okay, first you need to make a diamond template. Doesn't matter what size, it just has to fit on one of the non-padded sides of the diaper. Just freehand it.

Iron your Heat 'n' Bond to the wrong side of your fabric.

Trace your template as many times as you need to fit down one side of the diaper. I needed five.

Peel the Heat 'n' Bond backing off the fabric and iron your diamonds down one side of the diaper.

Get your template again and use the fabric pen to trace the diamond shape between the fabric diamonds. (Did that make sense? Oh, just look at the picture...)

Start sewing. I used a small zigzag stitch. Sew around your fabric diamonds and also around the diamonds you drew on.

This is what happens when you try to answer your phone while appliqueing.

Use a spray bottle to get rid of the marker lines.

And you're done!

Now make a few more, so you can practice those appliqueing skills.

Now your baby has something really cute to puke on!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. VERY cute! Love argyle! I like how you didn't have to find cute argyle fabric and could just use a plain fabric. These are really cute, keeping this idea on file.
